The Story Behind StoriVault

A personal mission to preserve the memories and stories that shape our lives.

Why I Created StoriVault

Like many others, I watched as the devastating disease of dementia slowly overtook my mother.

She was once a vibrant, loving, and energetic woman in the prime of her life. A beloved music teacher, a school counselor, and a tireless advocate for her students. She had a way of making people feel seen and encouraged. In our home, she was the centerpiece of our family of seven—the steady voice, the laughter in the kitchen, the one who somehow kept everything together.

But over time, dementia began to take pieces of her away.

First it was the little things—misplaced words, forgotten details. Then slowly, more and more of her memories began to fade. I watched as conversations became harder for her. Her ability to communicate slipped further away.

One of the hardest moments was when she slowly lost track of my name… and eventually who I was.

Experiences like that change you. They make you think deeply about memory, identity, and the fragile way our stories live inside us.

It made me realize how important it is to not only remember the people we love, but to preserve who they were—their personality, their spirit, their voice—for the generations that come after us. Not just for us, but for our children, and even for the family members who haven't been born yet.

Why a Book?

We live in a world where lives are often summarized in a few paragraphs—an obituary, a social media post, or a handful of photos.

But a life is so much more than that.

A book or memoir allows someone's story to breathe. It allows the details, the laughter, the struggles, the lessons, and the personality of a person to come alive again.

Unlike an obituary, a life story can be carefully crafted. It can include creativity, reflection, and even a touch of dramatization that makes it not just informative, but deeply engaging and entertaining to read.

With StoriVault, you can decide how factual or how imaginative you want that story to be. Some people want a true memoir. Others may want to shape their memories into something more cinematic, creative, or inspiring.

Either way, the goal is the same: to preserve a life in a way that feels meaningful.

"It made me realize how important it is to not only remember the people we love, but to preserve who they were."

Why Reading Still Matters

In today's world, the constant flow of social media has conditioned many of us to live in moments of instant gratification. We scroll, skim, and move on.

But reading asks something different of us.

Reading asks us to pause.

To slow down.

To take a breath and immerse ourselves in a story.

It's an art that feels increasingly rare, particularly among younger generations growing up in a world of endless digital noise. But reading has a unique ability to connect us emotionally to someone else's experience in a way few other things can.

A story invites us to sit with someone's life for a while.

"A life is so much more than an obituary or a few photos."

Why This Matters

I believe it's important for all of us to understand where we came from.

Our families, our histories, and the people who shaped us are the foundation of who we are today.

And just as importantly, I believe it matters for the generations that come after us—the ones not even among us yet—to have a chance to know their story. To understand the people who came before them, the challenges they faced, the values they carried, and the lives they lived.

That's what StoriVault is about.

It's about preserving memories.

It's about honoring lives.

And it's about ensuring that the stories that shape us are never lost.

Because every life deserves to be remembered.

"Because every life deserves to be remembered."

StoriVault exists to help people preserve the voices, experiences, and lives that shaped them — so those stories can continue to inspire generations to come.
